Great weekend participating in the Youth & Government state competition in Austin!! Thousands of students came from around the state to engage in legislative, judicial and executive activities. After a rocky start, which included Principal Douglas driving our luggage in his truck to Austin and back that night in the rain (servant leadership at its finest!!), the students had a great time! Our team is made up of Timberview, ECHS, and Legacy students.
LEGISLATIVE:
Joel Kwarteng presented his bill regarding pharmaceutical liability, and it was passed unanimously in the House with no objections.
JUDICIAL:
Anthony Pham and Tifini Edwards participated in District Court as judges trying 5-6 cases each.
The County Court team (attorneys - Rosalia Kanyinda and Jake Kleinjan, witnesses - Rome Vu, Keianna Brown, DJ Santos, Isaac Morales, Zairiyah Watson, and Sophia Ho) won FIRST PLACE in their division out of 32 teams!!
The District Court team (attorneys - Alexander Corley and Rashwinder Kaur, witnesses - Victoria Nguyen, Mikaylah Trotter, Agnes Ratemo, Turell Edwards, Sarah Adetosoye, and Margaret Gumba) tied for THIRD PLACE in the state out of 39 teams!!
Exhausting four days, but so grateful that the hard work this year paid off! Please feel free to join our Facebook group "Mansfield Texas Youth & Government" for more pictures and information about the program.
